This feels just like down. I had an expensive down featherbed a couple years ago, gave it to a friend, and have regretted it since. The reason I loved it is because it was basically the same after a couple years of use as it was the day I got it. This is the closest that I have found to it.
Usually, the super soft ones feel like a cloud at first but then after the first month they become flat and are never the same again. Firmer toppers like this one don't feel like laying on a cloud, but they add comfort to your mattress and remain the same over time.
I'd say it is a couple inches thick and honestly there isn't much padding but it feels very sturdy and firm and I really think it will hold up over time.
